Solution

The AlphaJet modification was designed to demonstrate the capability of using the gimbal on a B1 Bomber. This modification would allow the Bomber to

1: make its own damage assessment of a target rather than wait for ground confirmation.

2: enable automatic target acquisition without the need for ground crew

3: make missions more reliable and safe for the crew of the aircraft.

ART attached the Gimbal to the AlphaJet and ruggedized it to withstand the higher flight ceiling of the B1, as well as the environmental concerns that come along with it. Upon completion, the device was able to recognize targets over 25km away.
